THE TCRA MISSION

1) To protect and preserve the existing residential land uses within our defined boundaries to ensure that the character of the area so highly valued from a cultural and historic standpoint is maintained and, in fact, bettered.

2) To deal with all matters which may affect the defined area in the category of any proposed land use changes, assessments, changes in services or any other matter which could potentially impact the character of the area, by working with the Town of Oakville Planning Board or any other municipal or Provincial authority as may be appropriate to convey the views of the area residents and effect satisfactory resolution.

3) To assist any other similar groups in the greater municipal area whose purposes are compatible and directed toward the preservation of the character of this area specifically and the good of Oakville generally.

The foregoing we believe to be broad enough without being restrictive in our activities and yet will allow ensuing Boards to adopt certain specific objectives or programs as might be appropriate at the time. We believe very strongly that the Board must avoid getting embroiled in "neighbours" issues and only involve itself in those matters of general nature and those that specifically could be precedent setting and may result in planning changes that could adversely affect our neighbourhood.

KEY CATEGORIES OF CONCERNS

The Board will be concerned with the "pulse" of area residents to be certain that issues that affect a majority of residents are being identified.

There is no desire, nor should there be, for the Board to encroach on the functions of the elected officials but more properly must fill the role of a watchdog body to carefully monitor any activity or legislation which affects our area.

To further expand the general purposes as set out above the Board should consider all projects or activities under the following 5 key categories:

A) Residential - what is the impact of any proposed land use or traffic pattern changes on the historical and cultural nature of the area.

B) Social - to monitor or suggest new social, recreational and security related programs that may impact the area residents.

C) Commercial - because of our proximity to the downtown and Cross Ave. business areas, there must be key representation from us to ensure any programs, existing or contemplated, are complimentary to our area objectives.

D) Institutional - because of our proximity to OTMH, the MacLaughlin School and other medical, educational and institutional facilities, there must be key representation from us to ensure any programs, existing or contemplated, are complimentary to our area objectives.

E) Traffic - because of the intensity of land use in the non-residential parts of our area, we must have key involvement in traffic planning.
