The Town now owns the old Hospital Lands (including the old high school).
The contractors have begun site preparation. The overall demolition and site remediation will take approximately 12 months to complete. The development of the new Community Centre will begin in late 2018 with an opening scheduled for Fall 2020. The Project Timeline can be found here.
Current plans for the Community Centre include a 25m pool, small warm-water pool, fitness centre, double gym, running track and multi-purpose rooms.
The multi-storey garage to be retained to serve the new Community Centre. There will be a small park. Portions of the site will be re-purposed for residential development, some with a seniors' focus. The nature of that development is not yet fully defined but the TCRA advocates development which respects the character of the established residential neighbourhood.
