The Oakville Midtown Plan (covering an area north of Cornwall to the QEW, from Chartwell to the 16 mile creek) forecasts 12,000 new residents and 8,000 new jobs by 2031. High-rise development is proposed for 3 to 4 towers (up to 30 storeys high?) north of the GO Station.
Traffic has become steadily worse in the last few years. Congestion starts at Cornwall and can be grid-locked to Iroquois Shore (6 lights) during rush hour, accidents, construction, or snow events.
The GO Station is to be extended over Trafalgar to the east side where there will be a new bus station and a new QEW crossing (not an interchange) to North Oakville. The plans are silent on schools, public open spaces, and parks.
The TCRA is very concerned that all these developments will take place before the transportation infrastructure is upgraded and is engaging with Town staff, Metrolinx, Halton Region and the Department of Transport to encourage greater communication and involvement.
We communicate, support and advocate on behalf of neighbourhood residents with the aim of maintaining and improving the special character of our community.
